About Us

On Rep. John Lewis Way in downtown Nashville, there is a red-brick church that became the most important stage in American music. The Ryman Auditorium opened in 1892 as the Union Gospel Tabernacle, and its pews, its soaring Gothic arches, and its wooden stage have held everyone from Hank Williams to Jack White. The acoustics here are not engineered. They are accidental and perfect, a product of curved balconies and century-old timber that no modern concert hall has managed to replicate.

Visitors consistently note the moment they step through the doors, something shifts. The history is not behind glass. It is in the floor beneath your feet and the bench you sit on. Headliner shows fill the room with sound that feels physical. Self-guided tours let you walk the stage, explore the exhibit galleries, and understand exactly how a riverboat captain's revival meeting became the home of the Grand Ole Opry and, later, the proving ground for nearly every major name in country, bluegrass, and Americana.

What We Offer

The Ryman operates on two tracks that work beautifully together. On the concert and event side, the 2,362-seat auditorium hosts roughly 200 performances a year across country, rock, folk, comedy, and holiday shows. Tickets move fast, and the sightlines from every seat, including the balcony pews, are genuinely good. The intimate scale means you are never far from the stage.

During the day, self-guided daytime tours run through the building's full story, from its gospel roots through the Opry years to its 1990s restoration. Add the Ford's Theatre Lounge access for a premium backstage-adjacent experience on show nights. The Ryman gift shop carries exclusive merchandise you will not find at any other Nashville stop, and the location puts you steps from Broadway's honky-tonks and the rest of downtown.

Why Choose Us

"Made a trip to check out the Ryman Auditorium, and it was absolutely worth it. The history, atmosphere, and legendary reputation are evident the moment you walk through the doors. The acoustics are incredible, and the views are excellent from most seats in the house. You can really appreciate why so many iconic performers have graced this stage over the years. One thing to know—the bench seating is part of the historic charm, but it does mean you might get a little more familiar with your neighbors than you planned! 😆 Overall, a must-visit Nashville landmark and a fantastic venue to experience live music."

"The show was amazing. We saw Shane Smith and the saints. The openers were both great and put on a wonderful show. All the staff we encountered were polite and helpful. We added on the Fords Lounge and now this will always be a must. The bartender in the lounge is top notch and made you feel so comfortable. We can’t wait to come back."

"We finally made it to the Ryman on our latest Nashville trip, and pairing the self‑guided tour with our Lady A Christmas concert that night was the best decision. The tour was calm, easy to follow, and beautifully presented. The opening film set the tone, and the history throughout was incredible. My teen daughter loved spotting outfits from her favourite artists (Dolly, Kelsea, Taylor) and was surprisingly invested the whole way through. A highlight was watching the sound crew set up for the concert later that evening — an unexpected behind‑the‑scenes moment that made the visit feel extra special. We spent about an hour exploring, and the onstage photo was a great keepsake. Coming back that night for the Lady A show wrapped the whole experience up perfectly. Highly recommend doing the tour on the same day as a concert. It made the visit unforgettable."

"Had the honor of attending the "Tammy Wynette Tribute" on March 30 and it was a great show! I had front row seats center and that made it even more special for my 82 yo mother. She loves visiting Nashville; especially the Grand Ole Opry and Ryman venues. The staff were friendly and helpful getting us to our seats. They are very much appreciated!! Thanks to CONCORD ENTERTAINMENT for coordinating this event and as all, we look forward to this being brought to PBS for everyone to enjoy. Tammy Wynette represented and inspired generations of women in Country Music!!"

"Seeing a show at Ryman Auditorium is something truly special, and our experience on April 2, 2026 was absolutely unforgettable. We had the chance to see Max McNown perform, and even though he was clearly battling illness and losing his voice, the concert did NOT disappoint. His passion and dedication shone through every song. I have been a fan since his first single Freezing in November, and hearing his music live was incredible. From the opening set by Briscoe right until the final Max McNown song of the night, we loved every minute! It truly felt like an honour to sit inside the Ryman, known as the Mother Church of Country Music. This was our second visit. A few years ago we did the tour while visiting Nashville, and that experience is what made me want to come back for a live show. When the opportunity came up to see Max McNown here, I did not hesitate. The entire experience was amazing from start to finish. The staff were incredibly kind and helpful. From the warm welcome at the door, to helping me find the VIP area for merchandise, to guiding us to our seats, they went above and beyond to make the night feel special. I was also very impressed with the concession experience. The lines moved quickly and there was barely any wait, which is not always the case at venues like this. This was truly a highlight of our trip and a night we will never forget."

Yes. Self-guided tours typically run daily in the morning and afternoon, even on days when a concert is scheduled that evening. Tour hours may be adjusted on heavy event days, so confirm the schedule at ryman.com before you visit.

What is the Ford's Theatre Lounge and how do I add it on?

Ford's Theatre Lounge is a premium add-on experience available on select concert nights, offering backstage-adjacent access and an elevated atmosphere. It can be added when purchasing your concert ticket through the Ryman's official website.

Yes. The Ryman gift shop is generally open during business hours and carries exclusive merchandise, vinyl, apparel, and memorabilia you will not find at other Nashville retailers. Hours may vary on event days.

What should first-time visitors know before they arrive?

The seating is original church pews, so comfort varies. Arriving early for concerts gives you time to explore the lobby exhibits. The building is smaller than it looks from outside, which is part of what makes every seat feel close to the stage.
